5K Latino Walk – Stay Healthy
Turned out the event was a huge success with over 700 people walking and running to raise awareness of the high risk of obesity the Latino population in Georgia faces if we do not change our lifestyle.
Of course, changing our lifestyle is also a matter or resources available. How can you walk if there are no sidewalks? How can you go to your doctor appointments if there is limited public transportation and research shows that 25% of accidents are of people trying to catch a bus?
Enter the second goal of the event: Raise awareness of pedestrian safety on Buford Highway. One of the most diverse corridors in the country and also one of the deadliest for pedestrians (usually immigrant mothers with children)
This was an event hosted by the Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia. The only state-wide non-profit promoting health equity and empowering Latinos.
It WAS a beautiful day!
