Working on a new piece
I have been reading a lot about women and art. How under represented we are not only as artists but also as subject on paintings. There are few examples of women looking at woman and using them as subjects. When that happens, often times, the result is a raw and direct, the kind of stuff that would leave people thinking and re-considering assumptions. The best example is The Dinner Party (Judy Chicago) a mise-en-place of influential women in art.
The fact that there few representations of actual women that we (as women) can relate to/identify with, I believe, affects profoundly what we decide to paint and how we decide to paint it.
I decided with painting to explore how women see themselves and decide to represent themselves. An artist gazing at a women’s body (maybe the her own body?) and trying to create from it.
